September 7, 2009

Today is Labor Day so Chad and I are off of work and Carson doesn't have school. I got up this morning and went for a run. Today's scheduled run is 3 miles, but I did 2.5 because we had planned to hike the Y. I figured that would make up for the last 1/2 mile I didn't do!

We have lived in Utah County for 10 years and this is our second stint in Provo and we have never hiked the Y! I had heard it was a pretty steep, but easy trail. Having done it now, I would agree. It was steep! I was breathing hard most of the time, but we made it! Chad and Carson had to wait on me a bit, but Chad kept reminding me that he can't run like I can. I just found it very frustrating that my heart would be beating so fast and my breath coming so rapidly when I felt like I was barely doing anything!

It was an interesting hike, the trail was VERY crowded with lots of college students. Most everyone on the trail was wearing BYU T-shirts or hats. We did see one girl with a Crimson Tide shirt on, though! The Y itself is not at all what I expected. I thought it was smooth with definite edges. However, it is bumpy and lumpy with fuzzy edges! It was pretty cool to sit up there and enjoy the view. You can definitely see the whole valley from there. My camera battery died just as we got to the Y and I didn't get a single picture of myself! I was there, though! I even took a photo of the little generator shack that they use to light the Y up on special occasions. I have always loved that, despite not having any ties to BYU.

We went home after the hike, everyone showered and we went shopping for a bit. I am looking for something to wear to the Celebration Dinner for the 100 Day Heart Challenge. But, I didn't find anything! We went and checked out all of the fun stuff at Recreation Outlet then headed home for much needed naps! After naps, we went to the bookstore, got some drinks and came home for our favorite dinner - waffles!

What a great day. I love being with my family!
